Getting Started

Installation

Download and install ChartVault on Windows, and clear the one-time SmartScreen prompt.

Install ChartVault

  1. Download the installer — either the .exe (one-click) or the .msi (for managed/enterprise installs).
  2. Run it and follow the prompts. ChartVault installs like any desktop app and creates a Start-menu entry.
  3. Launch ChartVault. On first run you'll see the activation screen — continue to Activate your license.

"Windows protected your PC" (SmartScreen)

ChartVault is a small independent product, so the installer is not yet signed with an expensive code-signing certificate. Windows SmartScreen may show a blue "Windows protected your PC" dialog the first time you run it. This does not mean the app is malware — it only means Windows hasn't seen this publisher's signature before.

To continue:

  1. Click More info.
  2. Click Run anyway.

You only do this once. After the first launch, Windows remembers your choice.

Why the warning appears

Code-signing certificates that suppress SmartScreen cost money per year. Until ChartVault is signed, the one-time bypass above is expected and safe. The app is fully offline and makes no network calls except the single license activation.

System requirements

  • OS: Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit).
  • Internet: required once to activate your license; everything else works fully offline.
  • Disk: a few hundred MB for the app and your local database.

Updating

Install a newer version over the top of the old one — your local data is kept separately from the application files, so updates never touch your clients, sessions or settings. As a safeguard before any major change, you can export a backup to a single file in one click.
